📒 Discussion Note
Definition of Smart Mobility:
Smart mobility involves the enhancement of transportation systems through IT technology.
Essential Conditions for Scaling Up Electric Vehicles:
Instead of expecting society to willingly accept the inconvenience of smart mobility sharing, the technology should evolve to meet user desires without suppression.
Role of Smart Mobility in Addressing European Crises:
Smart cities should reflect the unique characteristics of each city and not follow a one-size-fits-all model.
In large cities, technology can support transportation-disadvantaged individuals, but this requires raising policy awareness.
Mobility Solutions for the Elderly and Transportation-Disadvantaged:
In small towns, transportation-disadvantaged individuals can be supported by a simple system where they call for taxis. The taxi services are arranged by the local government offices, without using technology at least in some regions.
In large cities, identifying and supporting transportation-disadvantaged individuals through technology is possible, but policy initiatives are necessary. They are not so visible in big cities with better transportation infrastructure, but because of policy.
Role of Companies and Challenges:
While corporate involvement in smart mobility can lead to issues like information monopoly, unauthorized use, and security concerns, these should not be viewed solely negatively. It has been a while since companies have been more actively involved in developing cities and lands, which used to be governments' decision-area.
At the moment, companies can participate positively through ESG initiatives. Companies can also promote their brand image through their contributions to the whole society.
ICT should be utilized as a tool, not as a purpose. Not every sector needs the highest specifications for smart technology.
